The Puppies Arrive

June 28th 2008 was a crazy day! We had friends over to celebrate Graham's birthday (which was the next day), my mum was visiting and we had three other overnight guests. To add to the excitement, soon after dinnerr (this is all the day before we went on our long journey to Livingstone,) our German Shepherd Cross started to give birth. Then some time later the next one arrived as you can see from this photo. Quite soon it became quite a spectacle and our over night guests took their seat at the event! Megan was doing all the hard work of helping Chisomo, having done this before and she kindly looked after them all while we away. Eventually by 6am the next morning our 'old lady' had produced 9 puppies! Sadly we have lost one but the other eight are going strong. To see some more photos including some of Graham getting soaked on his birthday then check out Meg's blog on: Why would he get wet? A birthday tradition here in Zambia - you throw water over the birthday boy or girl! So Graham got hit with water balloons plus a couple of bowl fulls courtesy of our team leader and a local pastor!
